Making Connections® Intervention Reading Comprehension Skills & Strategies Grades 6–8+
Making Connections Intervention provides targeted, direct comprehension instruction for struggling readers in Middle School and beyond. Middle school content with high interest topics and lower readability will engage even the most reluctant readers. Through carefully scaffolded lessons, struggling readers will learn to apply strategies to master comprehension skills—something that good readers do naturally.
Student Editions contain fiction and nonfiction texts. Readability levels and text layout are designed for struggling readers. Students interact with and mark texts, providing a concrete representation of the strategies used by active and purposeful readers. Multiple opportunities to develop, practice, and master comprehension skills and strategies are provided for each text.
Teacher Editions provide comprehensive, scaffolded lesson plans—from modeling, to guiding, to coaching to independent application. Every lesson includes before reading, during reading, and after reading support. Point-of-use techniques accommodate students of varied abilities, including English language learners. Reproducible assessments for every unit are included within the Teacher Edition providing formal formative assessment. There are also many opportunities for informal assessment thought the program to help teachers monitor student progress and differentiate instruction.
Student Library books include nonfiction, fiction, and graphic novels. These high-interest books give students the opportunity to further practice the newly developed skill and independently apply it to a longer text. Two books are available for each unit, (twelve books per level). Readability levels match the Student Edition readability levels.
Support all students with audio recordings of the student edition. Your students will hear all reading passages read aloud with fluency, plus unit openers and skills pages.
