Dorothy Grant Hennings is Distinguished Professor Emeritus, Kean University
in New Jersey. She received her undergraduate degree from Barnard College; her
masters degree from the University of Virginia; and her doctorate from Teachers
College, Columbia University. Dr. Hennings also taught in the public schools
of Rutherford and Fair Lawn, New Jersey. She is the author of many books, including
Communication in Action: Teaching Literature-based Language Arts and
Reading with Meaning: Strategies for College Reading. In 1992, Dr.
Hennings was the recipient of the International Reading Association’s
Outstanding Educator in Reading Award. In 1993, she received the Distinguished
Service Award from the New Jersey Reading Association.
