Merrill Student Readers Decodable narrative and informational texts that
help to develop fluency and comprehension by Phyllis Bertin, Eileen Perlman, et al. Grades K–6
Merrill Student Readers are decodable texts that coordinate with the PAF program,
but can be used to support any reading program. Each book covers specific phonetic
skills as well as high-frequency word practice. The books are controlled for
both spelling patterns and sight words so students can continually review and
apply decoding skills in meaningful contexts. Word lists organized by spelling
patterns are also included to give students practice as they read and spell
each word. Sight words are presented to students before they read each story
and new words are contrasted with words from earlier units to strengthen decoding
strategies.
The Merrill Readers work in conjunction with Preventing Academic Failure (PAF) Merrill Readers A–D are coordinated with Stepping Up in Reading, Book 1 Merrill Readers E–F are coordinated with Stepping Up in Reading, Book 2 Merrill Readers G–H are coordinated with Stepping Up in Reading, Book 3
